CUSTOM ORDER-"SPECIAL ORDER FABRICS" -PATCHWORK SCARF
NOTE: IF you are ordering more than 1-one Custom Patchwork Scarf, please let us know in the notes section so we will get all the details straight! ☺
A Special order fabric means that you choose it-and we will sew it! This is a special order fabric scarf so we most likely will not have this particular fabric in stock-or perhaps is not easily accessible locally to pick up and we will have to shop online and order it for you. Oh....but these are so much fun! No worries finding the right pattern-there are so many to pick from!
What to expect with your Story-Based custom order:
1. First: Do you need your Patchwork Scarf by a specific date OR just as soon as possible? Just let us know what your time frame is.
The time process usually is 1-3 weeks depending on the availability of your fabric choices and how quickly you are able to finalize your colour scheme choices.
We will gladly let you know if the date you have chosen, is possible to complete the project by.
2. And Secondly: You will be making the following choices for your Patchwork Scarf:
• Overall fabric colour scheme:
Reds, Blues, Purples, Browns, Blacks, Yellows, you name it- it is entirely your choice.
• Patterns and prints desired-2 specialty fabrics are included in the base price of $61.00 We provide all the surrounding fabrics with what we have in stock currently.
(Choices or ideas to choose from-for example:
Retro, Vintage, Floral, Bohemian, Animals, Music, Forest, Camping, Cars, Trucks, etc.)
ADD ON PRICING
You may give us a few of your personal favourites for the alternate squares such as Solids, Ginghams, Paisleys, Stripes, or Polka Dots just for starters. OR you may simply give the styles to avoid. Remember you may choose 2 different ideas for your Scarf without raising the price of the scarf. If you would like to add more than 2 or more fabric themes, please add $5.00 per each additional idea for design/fabric choice.
• Black Labrador Dogs & Guitars. The price will be $61. This is the starting base price.
• Then if you want to add Music Notes, we will add $5.00.
• Now if you want to throw in Wiener-Dachshund Dogs, then we will add another $5.00.
The total for this Patchwork Scarf would now be 61. + 5. + 5. = $71.
We will shop online or locally for the fabric idea you have provided and then purchase it with your prior approval.
Small fabric swatches from online fabric companies usually cost $5.00 minimum- but sometimes the price will be more depending on the availability of the fabric choice, size, or location it is stocked. We can discuss all these options up front so you will have an estimate of costs.
We will try to accommodate ALL of your choices, however, there are just way too many different fabric options to begin taking the exact orders until we get started, as this is a process that is a bit time consuming for both parties, and can easily take weeks to go back and forth to the fabric store(s) for photos and approval prior to cutting the fabric, including mailing time for the fabrics to arrive here in our studio as well as to the address you designate. It all depends on you! It really can be a lot of fun!
• REVERSE BACKING:
The reverse side of the scarf is the colour and fabric which we have selections in stock for, unless you prefer something that is in from our local fabric shop for an additional $5.00. It can be Flannel, Fleece, OR even a fine wale Corduroy. You can upgrade to a denser fabric called Polar Fleece for an additional $10. if you feel the need for even MORE warmth!
• SCARF LENGTH:
The Scarf will be approximately 65" -inches long-unless you upgrade to a longer length,
which we will add on $10.00 -up to 12" in. to cover the extra time and materials.
We like to send you pictures at 3 different points of completion so that you, as the buyer, will have time to interject before the item is complete. Please see the time frame for the pics below.
We will make a few different selections of fabric choices and make sure that we have photos of the colours we think might work best. We encourage you to include all of the details of your customization in the Message to Seller box in Checkout.
In most scenarios, we will be able to offer 3 different photo options after you have submitted your ideas. Patchwork options are truly endless so we have to limit the time frame by narrowing it down from the start with your input right away. Again, we like to submit no more than 3 pictures as options to you as the customer, once you have given your preferences up front.
We will have already shown you many photo choices to get the general idea before we even order or purchase the specialty fabrics.
3-PHOTO TIME FRAME:
Here is the time frame for your 3 photos of the Patchwork Scarf process.
#1 Pic- Usually all the patterns and colours previously discussed will be gathered and they will be the first picture so you can be sure you are happy with all of them before we begin the process of cutting the squares. It will be quite a pile of fabric to show you before we narrow it down. You can remove or add any patterns/fabrics at this point.
#2 Pic- Then a layout of all the patchwork pieces together AFTER they are cut for a display of each square to be sure you they are all actually pleasing to the eye and satisfactorily complimenting each other in a presentation that you really like. Then we will begin sewing the pieces together next.
#3 Pic -Lastly, the remaining picture will be the final product just before it is mailed to you so you will know what to expect in the post.
There are no two scarves are alike, and each one is unique ~ a one-of-a-kind piece of art, so your scarf will, most likely, not look identical to any shown in these photos in The Swedish Flicka shop!
Your special fabric-based/themed custom scarf will be approximately 65-68 inches in length, sometimes a bit longer, it is not an exact science. If you need a specific length, please let us know and we will try to get it as close as we can.
Once you have purchased this listing, we will discuss all of your ideas and colours through the Etsy messaging system and we will do our best to make sure we come up with the perfect Patchwork Scarf for you!
****CUSTOM ORDER -SPECIAL FABRICS-PATCHWORK SCARF****
We like to make sure the customer understands how the process works for choosing the custom scarf choices. Here is how the process works:
We will send a few photos of the fabrics ideas you have chosen for your approval first , and we will try to accommodate all of your colour and pattern choices but please remember, this is an idea-based custom order so that means you will have the general colours and fabrics that you would like but there are approximately 40 squares total, so we will choose some of the contrasting prints/fabrics that we have in stock here in our studio, to compliment the ones that you have ALREADY chosen.
We think you will be very pleased with the results and look forward to creating something you will love to wear for many cool winter seasons ahead! Let us create something that grabs your attention!
Our Patchwork Scarves are created using mixed fabrics, some are upcycled, hand cut, patchwork squares from various clothing and acquired fabric, and then other squares are new fabric. All fabric has been laundered prior to sewing. Each scarf is unique with its design. There are no two alike- so enjoy a One-of-Kind creation that will keep you toasty warm as well as make you feel special! ☺ Patches of assorted styles make up one side of this colorful scarf and the opposite side is a cozy wool knit, warm flannel, or fluffy fleece. Each scarf is unique and patterns will vary.
Wrap up and keep yourself snuggly-cozy with this scarf. Made with patchwork squares of cotton on one side and reversible to a soft anti-pill fuzzy fleece or flannel, or even other soft fabric on the other side. There are also thicker piles of polar fleece available and pattern styles differ as well, so if you want pay the extra to upgrade for something different than shown, we can do that easily depending on what fabrics are available.
We are proud to say that scarves our scarves are 'rough around the edges' as that is the character of Patchwork and scraps. We really like how the imperfect stitchery in our scarves is not professional like a mass produced company. Sometimes the squares are not straight or the scarf may not lay just flat or even, or the seams may not line up- but that is actually the beauty of these scarves. We are simple folk here and want a finished product that is functional and does the job well, yet still looks handsome or pretty with a an obvious handmade touch. Our scarves are not perfect, and they reflect life with many differences and nuances.
So, that is what we do here at The Swedish Flicka; we sew and weave with real people and hard working hands. So if you notice any unforeseen 'flaws' that you are not happy with, you are welcome return it for a full refund minus the shipping, or you simply can accept that the item is a unique work of art and know that you are supporting small businesses and families. You can be sure that the items have each been inspected carefully with our very own human eyes and are in no way defective. Either way, we hope you will find a place in your heart for our handmade traditional scarves, rugs, and potholders.
Each scarf is different, with the varying fabrics and cuts. To be sure, you will have plenty of room to wrap this scarf around your neck comfortably, or tie a neck loop. Generally your completed Patchwork Scarf will be 68"inches long.
Our preferred method is to HAND WASH in the sink with a bit of dish soap and then hang to air dry. Spot cleaning is best, but sometimes, we understand that you just have to immerse it and wash it completely. You could take the risk to wash it on GENTLE cycle in the washing machine, but you may have some minor hand stitching repairs to do if any of the squares don't hold. You can put the scarf in a lingerie/mesh laundry bag to protect it and then it should be just fine.
For scarves with FLEECE backing instead of flannel- warm iron only on cotton side, Do NOT iron on THE FLEECY SIDE, OR IT surely WILL MELT the fibers. Scarf backing will vary as no two are alike, using Fleece, Corduroy, Flannel, or Cable-Knit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I wash my Patchwork Scarf?
Patchwork Scarf Care:
Spot clean if possible. Please follow the directions on the items tag. It will direct you to wash on delicate in a mesh/ lingerie bag or tied pillow case and make sure the water is cool.
Do NOT put the Patchwork Scarf in the dryer-let it air dry on a hanger. You may iron the cotton pieces on the front side but not the fleecy squares or the reverse fleecy side or they will most assuredly melt and stick to the iron.
There is just no way to know how each washing machine will affect the items, however, they are all sturdily made and should stand the test of time. Just give proper attention prior to washing and that will ensure that it stays in fine condition.
Are The Swedish Flicka Patchwork Scarves REALLY one-of-a-kind?
YES! We make everything in small batches here, so even if we use similar fabrics and patterns, and square placement, there will never ever be two Patchwork Scarves that are exactly alike. So each one is truly a unique masterpiece!
How do I clean my Rag Rug?
You can throw the Rag Rug into the washing machine on gentle cycle with as little agitation as possible, and air dry over a stair banister OR chair back until completely dry. However, a very old fashioned & traditional way of cleaning a Rug is the freezing snow method. On a cold, clear day (25°F/ - 3° or colder) with at least several inches of fresh powder snow, take the Rug outside and leave it for a couple of hours until it has frozen. Lay the stiff carpet in the snow and whack the exposed surface with a broom. Shake the rug out, turn it over on a fresh patch of snow, and beat the other side. If you wait for a cold, dry day, the rug will barely become wet when you clean it this way. Just brush off any loose snow before you take it inside.
We gladly offer wholesale pricing for some of our items, upon request. Thank you for enquiring!
Gift wrapping and packaging
Our items are all carefully packaged to look extra 'gifty' already, but if you need more fluff to make it look like an official present then just let us know and we can make it look just right-for an additional $5.00. We can arrange a gift wrap listing and small note tucked in, just for you!

Patchwork Blankie Care:
We understand baby accessories require lots of washing. So to extend the life of your Blankie, we suggest washing it on a delicate cycle. It has already been washed and dried here at our studio so we hope your washing machine is as gentle as ours.
