Meet the instructor

Hello I’m Felicity,

Rag Rug fact:

If one rug is approximately 10 pounds of discarded clothing, and you weave just 9 Rag Rugs in a whole years time, then 90 POUNDS of wasted clothing will be saved per person each year.

let’s get started with this PHENOMENAL experience… by doing our part in lowering the landfills. are you up to the challenge?

The Swedish Flicka

is truly a variety shop of up-cycled and re-used projects. We have enjoyed creating RAG RUGS from a plethora of used clothing and fabrics. Then, we use the remaining pieces of cloth scraps for our cosy PATCHWORK SCARVES. Just when we thought there were no more use for the scraps...we made woven POTHOLDERS, MUGRUGS, and tiny fabric BROOCHES.

just imagine,

Rag Rugs in every colour…

go on ~ weave one for every room.

So, we definitely thought this was more than enough ideas to stock our shop with....but then we realised that there might be other folks that might like to get started Looming too. So we have added locally hand-made wooden potholder LOOMS and TUTORIALS so you to create your very own potholders, because weaving potholders is how it all began for us here at The Swedish Flicka.

Rag Rug weaving takes quite a bit of time, but it gives you such a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Then the feeling of walking on the finished hand-woven product is just so satisfying! We cannot have enough of these rugs in our own home. So whether it is a big weave or a small one...it's all the 'voice of tradition' being passed down!

Our shop has always consisted of 2 young boys and a mum that homeschooled together, amidst many projects that taught us real life experiences….but nowadays, I am mostly working as a one woman show, and that’s just fine and dandy.

Afterall, "The Swedish Flicka" name translates to " The Swedish Girl".

voila! add a cushy soft rag rug at the kitchen sink and you have just brightened your life!
